The story had a really cool setup that started off stronger than it ended but remained engaging throughout.
Gameplay: The game is pretty metroidvania, with a number of different ways to go and will have you backtracking to find things later in the game.
The gorgeous visuals are accompanied by a fitting soundtrack that while a bit more on the retro side, still felt like it belonged.

And in fact the game (being inspired by souls-likes) becomes fairly challenging about halfway through, with some precision platforming gauntlets and tough battles - but luckily the controls are precise with an useful control scheme (played it with a Xbox controller), and the real challenge is learning the bosses' attack patterns and how to use the various boons and magic powers we can find to adapt to the various situations.
