If however, all you are here for is the "plot", keep in mind that no version past the original 2002 release had sex scenes, the game's story was rewritten and expanded since then, and there is zero chance those scenes are being patched in.
Gameplay-wise, Utawarerumono is a split between "Tactics" JRPG and a traditional visual novel.
(The anime can be a better viewing experience than the visual novel, as there are a lot of fights that are just narrated in the visual novel section that are just text descriptions and sound effects.
The major cultures in this world seem to be based on the real world Ainu culture, and the visuals depict this very well.
