when i first played this game, i am reminded of my favourite tv series: White Collar but in a 90's setting with much smaller cons to pull off with a predictable ending. that does not mean it's a mediocre game which has no creativity, no, it actually makes you feel satisfied jotting down those ka-chings until you reach your goal (or go over it!)
- the gameplay is bemusing with lots of side quests that are mostly eavesdropping on others to find out codes for their bags and multiple hunts for valuable items to trade of for cash (obviously). what i find the most fun throughout my playthroughs is the casino poker side quest :p
The art style walks a fine line between parody and homage, capturing the spirit of the era without feeling cheap or derivative.
The Big Con is a quirky game, with vibrant colours, comic-like aesthetics and a nice soundtrack.
The settings menu is very fleshed out, which is always appreciated.
Worked great using a controller because I found using 123 on the keyboard unintuitive.
Theme by theme
Every theme is scored by what reviewers actually said about it, not just whether they recommended the game.
Ranked by how many sampled reviews mention each topic. A topic sits in a column by what reviewers said about that topic; the percentage beside it is how many of them recommended the game anyway. 2 more themes were each raised by fewer than 6 sampled reviews and are not shown.
