I might get back to it to do some of the challenge runs, as the scope is not unnecessarily stretched, the focused vision is definitely polished in terms of the gameplay feel, I can only assume that this playing experience is tied with how it was developed, minimizing effort on lore, sound and music, as well as visuals and a lot of stats and mechanics, and just making sure that the basics are fun.
The combat works well enough, and the vibe is pretty solid, but janky hitboxes, game-breaking bugs, a punishing checkpoint system, and an achievement list that forces multiple uninspired playthroughs add up to an experience that is rougher around the edges than it needs to be.
The muted pixel art style leans into grays, greens, and weathered browns, and the fog that drifts across the island does real work in creating a sense of mystery and decay.
Additional difficulty modes and mastery runs provide replay value for those seeking further refinement of their skills.
Reminds, me of "No one lives under the lighthouse" and the sound design of the game.
