really, it all comes together so well. just perfect, all wrapped up with a bow on top. your mileage may vary, but for me, this game far exceeds what paper mario tried to do. i love paper mario, but i REALLY love bug fables. it is so much better, it takes everything paper mario did, and it does it so much better. the characters and story are so loveable, it makes you want to see this cast succeed. it makes you really adore them. everything about it is just, mwah, perfection. not much else to say except thank goodness there is quite a bit of post game content. you wont have to worry about that, they have you covered. they also have additional ways of making the game MUCH harder, but i wont spoil that. oh, and fill out your house!
to preface, i played with the optional hard mode on, but i really REALLY recommend you play with it on. it is not overly hard, but it really makes you sweat and engage with everything properly. if not, it will be a much different experience. to me, hard mode is non negotiable.
for the gameplay, a lot to go over. it is obviously reminiscent of the golden era of paper mario games, a style that has really stuck with people around my age for being so unique and charming. and bug fables, in my opinion, looks even better. it fits SO well!
Easily one of the best RPGs and straight up one of the best games I have played in my life, this game delivers with story, characters, combat, exploration, puzzles, difficulty, audio and visuals.
i had to get the soundtrack as it is just front to back amazing. the tunes you'll hear as you move across bugaria, it is perfect. it feels so right for it. you have everything from upbeat happy town to extremely somber and sad. it does it all, and it does it so well. i find sometimes games can have an identity crisis on the music front, but bug fables takes it and uses it to push the worlds atmosphere to 11. it is addicting!
The controller can't be remapped, which I normally would be fine with, but mapping for X and B on the xbox controller is unintuitive.
Theme by theme
Every theme is scored by what reviewers actually said about it, not just whether they recommended the game.
No recurring complaints surfaced in this sample.
Ranked by how many sampled reviews mention each topic. A topic sits in a column by what reviewers said about that topic; the percentage beside it is how many of them recommended the game anyway. 2 more themes were each raised by fewer than 6 sampled reviews and are not shown.
