What players think
The recurring themes across 300 analysed reviews: what players praise, what divides them, and what to know.
Swords & Sandals, paying homage to the glorious combat seen during the days of ancient Rome most prominently dramatized in the famed Colosseum, is the key inspiration led from a series of classic Dungeons & Dragons campaigns created by Oliver Joyce and Gregory Bernard who worked on the setting and its many iconic characters alongside the world that the S&S games themselves take place in.
The character creator is fun and the progression is just excellent.
The new artstyle is just not very good and it has a hard time working with the overall budgetary restrictions of these games, creating some very trashy looking visuals that S&S 1 and 2 did not suffer from to the same degree.
Theme by theme
Every theme is scored by what reviewers actually said about it, not just whether they recommended the game.
Ranked by how many sampled reviews mention each topic. A topic sits in a column by what reviewers said about that topic; the percentage beside it is how many of them recommended the game anyway. 2 more themes were each raised by fewer than 6 sampled reviews and are not shown.
