As an FF game, its RPG mechanics and convoluted story are not a high point for the series.
The HD graphics running on 2560 x 1440p really brings out the world of FF8 and I'm able to see much more clearly now than the 1999 version.
That said, it doesn't entirely override all of the gameplay, and you'll spend plenty of time learning about the Junction feature used to modify your character's stats, abilities, strengths, and weaknesses, which becomes crucial later in the game.
This Soundtrack is still my favorite of any game i've ever played!
Final Fantasy VIII feels like that one kid in class who tries so hard to be different.
But been a fun game to play on the side on my Steam Deck.
